In this year’s Miss England competition, Mary-Anna Jennings the reigning Miss Lincolnshire has secured a partnership with the Linda Mary Clarke Award for her page in the Miss England final program.
Advocating to get more women and girls into the pubic service sector, namely the Fire Service, this award directly embodies all Mary-Anna stands for. With the fire service itself being so connected within the STEM industry, this sponsor is the perfect match for the work Mary is continuing to carry out through her Beauty With a Purpose Project, SWIFS. Supporting Women Into the Fire Service has taken huge leaps in success over the last two and a half years that it has been operating. From being featured twice this year in the most prestigious Public Service magazine, UK Fire; to having provided several guest speaker talks over the past few months, it is safe to say this project is one-of-a-kind.
Mary-Anna first founded this project from her own adverse experiences whilst working within the sector. Not only does SWIFS have a solid set of values to run off; but it also has the relevant operational knowledge coming from Mary herself, making the project informidable.
Miss England has never seen a project like this which focusses so clearly on improving Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Equitable Opportunity throughout the public service sector. Mary said, “This is no longer just a project, but it’s a movement which is inspiring a whole generation. Through its values to inspire, educate, empower and advocate; SWIFS is set to become the most successful positive action project the UK has ever seen”.

THE LINDA MARY CLARKE MEMORIAL AWARD
The Linda Mary Clarke Memorial Award was established in memory of Linda Clarke, who passed away in 2019. During her working life she was passionate in her support and encouragement to young women to achieve their potential in pursuing their careers, particularly, but not exclusively, within Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).
The Award has previously provided financial support to a number of young women to help them to achieve their goals in life. Over the past few years contestants in the Miss England Finals have benefited from this support and this has hopefully helped and inspired them to go on and achieve goals and overall ambitions in their lives and careers.
Richard Clarke, who is Linda’s brother and the administrator of the Award said;
“It has been a great privilege and pleasure to work with contestants in the Miss England Finals and to be able to provide some modicum of help and support to them”
“I have also worked closely with Angie Beasley, Director of Miss England, for a number of years and have greatly appreciated the wise advice and guidance that she has provided in helping me to offer the support of the Award to these contestants.”
