In her empowering talk, Afrose spoke about the importance of embracing natural beauty and why the Make-Up Free Round is such a vital part of the Miss England contest. She highlighted how pageant contestants are often seen as role models to young girls, and the round encourages authenticity and confidence without relying on filters, editing, or layers of make-up.

Afrose gave a powerful speech at the Grand station about what being make up free means to her which can be seen on the Miss England TikTok Account @missenglandlimited
Miss England director Angie Beasley ( pictured with Afrose) first introduced the Make-Up Free Round back in 2019 after noticing a growing trend of contestants submitting heavily edited photos and images with excessive make-up. Angie created the round to challenge this culture and inspire women to embrace their true selves.
Although Afrose herself loves make-up and sees it as a form of artistry, she expressed how important it is to celebrate natural beauty and encourage young women to feel comfortable in their own skin. She admitted that at first, she was unsure about entering the make up free round but was glad she did, as it led to her national win of the award in 2024.
Her heartfelt speech received a huge round of applause, marking the first time Afrose had ever spoken publicly in such a way.
The Make-Up Free Round is one of nine rounds in the Miss England contest, and applications for the Midlands heat remain open until 19th September.
Miss England Director Angie Beasley said:
“When I first introduced this round in 2019, it was because I was receiving so many filtered, edited and heavily made-up images from contestants. I wanted to remind young women that natural beauty is something to be proud of. Afrose’s speech perfectly captured the spirit of this round — showing that confidence without make-up is just as beautiful as creativity with it.”
