Thailand’s first ever Miss World “Opal Suchata Chuangsri” visits Coventry’s BOPA (British Organisation of People of Asian Origin)

Organised by the team at BOPA, a  special Breast Cancer awareness lunch and visit to Coventry was organised and hosted  with local healthcare professionals to welcome Miss World “Opal Suchata Chuangsri”  and her Beauty with a Purpose project “Opal for Her” part of her powerful journey highlighting meaningful missions across the UK.

Local dignitaries – including BOPA Patron Resham Singh Sandhu MBE DL, Royal Navy Capt. Durdana Ansari BOPA patron, members of the BOPA and more esteemed members of the medical community – gathered in honour of the Miss World delegation. The event included heartfelt discussions with Miss World, local doctors and patients, who shared their vital work in the fight against cancer, highlighting the community’s focus on health and humanitarian causes.

BOPA’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian initiatives, including their award-winning Peace Garden at Coventry Canal Basin, which features a Rotary Peace Pole unveiled at a festival in June.  The organisation received a King’s Award for its community work, with King Charles himself having visited their projects to show support.

Speakers at the lunch in Coventry were local health professionals who spoke about their inspiring work  – R-L Dr Nidhi Agarwal Consultant Radiologist, Mrs Katherina McEvoy Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, Miss World Opal Suchata,  Chandrabala Maru a Practice facilitator at Breast Screening Services & Krooty Bhushan a clinical practitioner.

Opal told the guests at the lunch  “Yesterday I sadly found out I lost one of my dear friends to breast cancer. She was a fighter, I would say she’s a survivor, and now she is an angel. But we must realise that theres a chance of 1 out of 10 of us that it could be you , someones daughter , mother or sister or even a man. Yes it can happen to men as well. It could be someones world and thats why it means so much for me to speak more and more about it, especially breast cancer prevention “

Following the lunch Miss World changed from her glamorous attire and offered a helping hand alongside local Miss England semi -finalist Sharan Sahota at the Midlands Langar Seva Society serving hot meals to the homeless in Coventry a community base project which serves across the UK.

On Sunday 3rd August, Miss World was then invited to BOPA’s Peace Garden for a community event including local dancegroup The Crew Girls & music kindly provided by Sunit Music in support of for the Carers Trust at the Heart of England, a charity which improves the lives of children and adult carers across Coventry & Warwickshire.

Later that day , Opal was invited to attend other local community-based projects associated with BOPA members who wanted the honour of meeting Miss World whilst she was visiting the city.

“BOPA’s involvement with Miss England goes beyond pageantry. It’s about bringing communities together, recognising compassion and leadership, and celebrating the spirit of service,” said Davinder Prasad General Secretary representing BOPA. “We are proud to support platforms that empower young people and promote unity and thank Miss World from the bottom of our hearts for visiting Coventry.”

Miss Worlds Beauty with a Purpose UK wide Tour continued on Monday 4th August with a trip to Liverpool having already visited projects in Wales and Scotland .
