The Miss England Contest is widely regarded as one of the most respected beauty titles in the country and remains the only competition in England that sends its winner to represent the nation at the Miss World Contest.
Angie Beasley has served as Director of Miss England since 2002. Prior to this, in the 1990s, she organised Miss United Kingdom on behalf of Miss World, alongside Miss Scotland and Miss Wales. When Julia Morley restructured the competition in 2002, separating the UK into four individual countries, Angie became Director of Miss England Limited. This change allowed four contestants—one from each nation—to compete at Miss World, with the highest-placed becoming Miss United Kingdom. The Miss England title is a registered and protected trademark with the UK Patent Office and is owned by Miss World, which will celebrate its 75th anniversary in Vietnam in 2026.
The competition is particularly recognised for its strong focus on charity and social impact. Through the Miss World “Beauty with a Purpose” initiative, founded by Julia Morley, Miss England contestants have collectively raised over £1 million for children’s charities in recent years. The organisation has also been a long-standing supporter of Variety Children’s Charity, raising more than £450,000 through regional heats and national events, with Miss England winners regularly attending and supporting high-profile charitable occasions.
Miss World itself is one of the longest-running and most globally recognised televised events, broadcast in over 120 countries since its launch in 1952. The competition attracts thousands of entrants worldwide and offers a top prize of $100,000. Past winners and contestants have gone on to achieve international success, including Aishwarya Rai, Zhang Zilin, and Priyanka Chopra, while former contestants Halle Berry and Michelle Yeoh later became Oscar-winning actresses.
Miss England has also produced a number of well-known figures in entertainment and modelling. These include Georgia Horsley (now Georgia Jones), Danielle Lloyd, Amy Jackson—now a leading Bollywood actress—Laura Coleman, and Amy Willerton, who appeared on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! after representing London in Miss England 2012 and later winning Miss Universe GB.
