On Saturday 21st March 2026, UpsideofDowns proudly hosted its annual World Down Syndrome Day celebration — a truly uplifting and memorable occasion for everyone involved.

Miss Englands 2025 first runner up Lisa Austin from Wembley London went along to help on the day.

The event brought together a wonderful community of parents, children, carers, and supporters, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere. It was not only a chance to celebrate individuals with Down Syndrome, but also an important opportunity for families to connect, share experiences, and support one another. For many, it offered a rare and valuable moment to step away from the day-to-day demands of caregiving, relax, and simply enjoy time together.

We were honoured to welcome several distinguished guests, including the Disability Minister, Rt Hon Sir Stephen Timms, who delivered an insightful and encouraging speech. He spoke about the Government’s ongoing work to improve opportunities and support for people with disabilities, and reflected on his recent visit to the Down Syndrome Association (DSA) Head Office in Teddington. He expressed how impressed he was by the wide range of activities and employment opportunities that individuals with Down Syndrome are actively engaging in, and confirmed his interest in exploring this further.

A special highlight of the day was the attendance of Miss Lisa Austin, Miss Wembley 2025 and first runner-up at Miss England 2025. We extend our sincere thanks to Angie Beasley for facilitating this wonderful visit. Lisa was warmly welcomed by families and children alike, with many delighted to meet her, take photos, and share in the excitement. Her presence added an extra sparkle to the event and was truly appreciated by all.

The day was filled with fun, laughter, and energetic activities. Guests enjoyed a lively programme including Bollywood and freestyle dance sessions led by the talented choreographer Sonia. Additional engaging activities were provided by Bettina from Paracarnival and Aurelie, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.

We are incredibly grateful to all our guests, entertainers, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to making the day such a success. Events like this highlight the strength, joy, and unity within the Down Syndrome community.

Ally, CEO of UpsideofDowns, would like to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and helped create such a meaningful and joyful celebration.

We look forward to welcoming you all again at our next event.
