The new Miss England beauty queen has a secret - she is a pure Welshwoman from the Valleys. Blonde model and journalism student Alize Lily Mounter, 22, was crowned Miss England earlier this week - even though she's as Welsh as daffodils and leeks. London Evening Standards They met working for a clothing company known for only employing beautiful people. Now Alize Lily Mounter and Roland Johnson, who worked for American clothing brand Hollister, have been crowned Mr and Miss England. Miss Mounter, 22, who lives in Kensington, will now represent England at Miss World in November. She persuaded Mr Johnson, 19, a musician from Surrey, to take part "for a laugh". Miss Mounter said: "It is something I thought he would be really good at because he is a real prince charming. But then I ended up winning as well, which is absurd." |

Wednesday 30th March TWENTY-year-old medical student Ilaria Pignatelli has been crowned Miss Bristol 2011.Ilaria won the title after beating competition from 15 other contestants at Keynsham's Fry Club last night. She will now act as an ambassador for the city, as well as going forward to the Miss England competition with her eye on the Miss World crown. THE interest rate is set to soar for Robyn Lee over the next few weeks.
The 19-year-old works at a branch of Santander in Rainford but she also has hopes of being a model and is banking on support of Star readers to send her stock soaring. Thursday 10th March MORE than 100 young women have already entered this year's Miss York contest after a successful launch event at a city centre nightclub.Organiser Naomi Smith, herself a former winner and a Miss England runner-up, said some "fantastic girls" were signing up for the contest. Naomi claimed anyone had the potential to be Miss York and even Miss England, without having to be the most beautiful girl in the competition to win. |

SCIENTIST Carly Durkin has brains as well as beauty after taking a chance on becoming Miss Staffordshire 2011.
And the 21-year-old, from Abbey Hulton, wants to use her success to inspire others from deprived backgrounds to aim high. Carly, a final-year student in biomedical science at Keele University, is one of 35 girls who have so far entered the annual beauty contest. She said: "I was encouraged to enter after visiting my hairdressers. I never considered applying before then, but they thought I would be quite good. |

Friday 4th March THIS year's Miss York contest will be launched at a party at a city centre nightclub tomorrow night.Organiser Naomi Smith said the search was on for entrants to the 2011 competition, and she had teamed up with Club Salvation to ensure there were plenty of candidates. "Scouts will be at Club Salvation looking for girls who they think have the potential to win this year's Miss York and go on to represent the city in the Miss England Grand Final," she said. |

A UTTOXETER nursery worker is hoping to show that ‘real women' can be models after auditioning for a beauty competition at the weekend.
Gemma Edwards is battling for the title of Miss Staffordshire 2011 after getting through to the finals at Uttoxeter Racecourse last year. The event, which also acts as a heat of the Miss England competition, will again be held at the Wood Lane venue on May 14, and auditions to find 20 finalists took place on Saturday. AN ASPIRING animal physioherapist and a dental nurse are among the young women hoping to be crowned Miss Staffordshire 2011.

Wednesday 23rd February THE search is on to find Cumbria's most glamorous young women as the Miss England competition returns to the county. Kirstie Day, the current Miss Cumbria, will be scouting in Barrow town centre on Friday in the hope of spotting a contestant capable of bringing home the crown and following in the footsteps of Eleanor Barr, from Barrow, who was Miss Cumbria in 2009. |

Thursday 10th February THE search is on for the next gorgeous girl to wear the Miss Worcester crown.Entries have opened for this year's competition, which sees beauties from around the county battle it out to prove they have the style and sophistication to win the prestigious title. The final on Sunday, May 8, will be held at Worcester Racecourse as part of a family funday and after that the newly crowned Miss Worcester will then go onto compete at Miss England and then - if she wins that - to the Miss World contest. |

The hunt is back to find the Fylde's most glamorous girls as the Miss England competition returns to the region.
After making it to the semi-final of Miss England 2010, organisers are hoping this year's Miss Fylde Coast will go the extra mile to bring home the crown. Current Miss Fylde Coast holder, Kerry Capoverde, is urging contestants to come forward. "For any girl considering entering I would say 100 per cent go for it," she said. Thursday 10th February The current Miss Bristol has beaten off competition to be named Miss Bath.At an event held at the Hilton Hotel Amy Willerton was given the title by a panel of judges last night. Amy, 18, from Bristol, has been Miss Bristol for a year. She will now be swapping her Miss Bristol sash for a Miss Bath one, and will go on to represent the city in the Miss England semi-final in June. |

A CASTLE fit for a fairytale princess has helped launch the quest to find a beauty who will become the face of Northumberland.
On Monday, the search began at Bamburgh Castle to find 24 girls aged 17 to 24 from around the county, who will battle it out for the first title of Miss Northumberland. Last year's winner Rebecca Morton hailed from the city and it's hoped another gorgeous girl from Birmingham will win the title Rebecca, 24, said of her win: "Miss Natural Curves has proved that you can be over a size 10 and be beautiful and healthy, as well as successful in the fashion business. Rosie Godfrey-Lockwood is one Essex girl for whom the only way is natural, scooping the region's top beauty queen crown after appearing before judges without wearing any make-up. Now, the 19-year-old - who has never even used foundation - is helping to smash the stereotype about women in her county being all fake tans and layers of lipstick. She said: ‘I believe in natural beauty. I think it's a vicious circle and once you start wearing make-up from a young age, you can't live without it.' Friday 28th January A teenager who has reached the finals of the Miss Bath City competition is looking for a fairy godmother to find her an evening gown.Saskia Cochrane is the youngest entrant in the competition, having just turned 17. The Prior Park College pupil faces an additional challenge to the other finalists, finding a ball gown to fit her 5ft 10in body. One section of the competition is the eco-round, which requires participants to wear a ball gown that has been passed down to them, or bought in a charity shop. Chelsea Bagnall, 17, made the cut of 70 from thousands of entries after her mum Tina Falzon entered her without her knowing.
Former Meridian pupil Chelsea said: "I didn't know my mum was going to do this but I am glad she did, and now I'm really excited for the semi-final. "She has taken so many pictures of me and just decided to send one in and see what happens. I haven't done any modelling before but I would like to, and hope it opens up some opportunities." |

THE search is on for a South Yorkshire girl with the looks and personality to represent the county in the Miss England contest . . . and possibly compete for the Miss World title.
Auditions for the Miss South Yorkshire 2011 contest, which gives the winner entry to Miss England and the chance to become Miss World, will be held at the Holiday Inn, Rotherham, on Saturday, February 26, with the final being held at the same venue on Friday, April 15. ITV presenter Philippa Tomson will be hosting the event. Fellow station presenter Kenny Toal will be joining her on the judging panel. The lucky winner will automatically receive a modelling contract as well as entry into the coveted Miss England contest. |

Tuesday 14th December Birmingham MailMISS England gave a helping hand to a charity for injured troops in Birmingham as she helped to wrap up gifts for the festive period. Jessica Linley, a student from Nottingham, helped prepare ‘grab bags' - which are full of essentials such as clothes and toiletries - at Solihull charity Troop Aid yesterday. These packages provide a vital lifeline to injured British servicemen at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Edgbaston, which houses a 30-bed military ward. Troop Aid organiser, Pam Sutton, said of the gifts: "When these people are first injured their uniforms are cut off, so our bags help to give them back their dignity." NEWBURY Miss England contestant Sarah-Anne Foster is preparing to defy a heart condition by climbing Mount Snowdon for charity. Miss Foster, aged 23, discovered earlier this year that she suffered from an irregular heart beat and has lost family members to heart disease. On Sunday she will don warm clothing and hiking boots and climb to the mountain top, 1085m above sea level. Snow at the peak is almost guaranteed at this time of year and Miss Foster, who runs her own business, Divine Models, said: "It will take me at least five hours and I will have to take it very carefully. Wednesday 24th November MISS England popped along to urge hard-working Birmingham employees to dress up as Santa Claus to raise money for a children's charity.Jessica Linley donned a Mrs Claus outfit before hitting the city centre offices of Legal & General in support of fundraising event Santas on the Run. She joined suitably- attired senior managers to deliver mince pies and encourage staff to sign up for the event, which supports the Acorn's Children's Hospice charity. Runners will cover 3km routes in either Birmingham's Brindleyplace on December 4 or Walsall Arboretum on December 5 to raise money for life-limited and life-threatened children and their families. |

The chorus of student protest against tuition fees was joined today by Miss England.
Beauty queen Jessica Linley is studying law at Nottingham University, where she is also a treasurer of the law society and finance officer for the athletic union. The 21-year-old, who has taken a gap year to carry out her Miss England duties, described the proposed increase as "unacceptable". Ms Linley, from Norfolk, said: "Everyone should be entitled to an education, but too few people will be able to afford one at £9,000 a year. A Southampton teenager has been selected as one of 30 finalists in a competition being held by the organisers of Miss England. Holly Broomfield, 19, has reached the latter stages of the Miss Fresh Photographic category. The competitors voted into the top six will be invited to the Clothes Show Live in Birmingham to compete for the crown.

Tuesday 9th November A STUDENT from Kidderminster is through to the quarter finals of Miss England. Jamie Stojkowski, 19, who studies sports therapy and rehabilitation at The University of Worcester, sent off her picture to be considered for the competition. She was chosen to take part in a photoshoot and then given a modelling assignment with two other contestants, which appeared in the Worcester News.

A BROMSGROVE teenager is vying to become the new Miss England.
And Alishia Southall, 19, who was Miss Bromsgrove in 2008, now needs the help of Standard readers after making it through to the heat stage of the national beauty pageant. She is currently involved in a public vote which will run until 12midday on November 27. Alishia is up against 29 other girls from around the country, with the three with the most votes going through to the next round.

The regional finalists will come together and compete for the crown during the two-day event (organised by Miss England), which will include a new ‘sporting prowess' section, replacing the traditional ‘swimsuit round'. | Wednesday 23rd June MISS Southport has secured her place to compete for the Miss England crown after winning a surprise sports challenge at the semi finals. Abi Bridgeman, an 18-year-old KGV student from Kew, competed with 58 other girls from across the country in a Royal Navy bleep test at the event which was held in Champneys Health Spa in Leicester. Abi was crowned the winner of the competition, which consisted of continuous running between two lines 20m apart in time to recorded beeps.

Friday 18th June 2010 A SHEPHERD'S Bush student is hoping to swap the classroom for the catwalk after reaching the final stages of the Mr England competition. Jarryd Gordon, 20, of Lakeside Road, is hoping to go all the way after being named in the final 12 for the national finals in September. He has only been modelling for two years after his friends and family recommended he give it a shot and he has been delighted with the results. He said: "A lot of people were saying that I should go into modelling and it seemed like a good idea. It was not something I ever really thought about but they were saying it so much that I started to believe I could do it.

| Friday 18th June 2010 COVENTRY beauty Kirstie Logan has got through to the finals of a competition to become the new Miss England. The 19-year-old Miss Coventry winner triumphed in the semi finals at Champneys Springs Health Resort in Leicestershire, seeing off competition from 54 other beauties from across the country. The former Bablake School pupil was one of only 16 finalists to be chosen by judges on Monday for the grand final in Birmingham, set to be televised live. The win came after a gruelling 10-hour day of interviews and catwalk performances. The Coventry University student said: "I cried. I was so happy because I didn't think I was going to get through. "All the Miss Coventry's before me hadn't got through. |

Friday 18th June Noopur Sharma, aged 22, sailed through qualification after raising more money for charity than anyone else in the competition and getting the most public votes. Miss Sharma, of Warwick Gardens, Daubhill, is now one of only 16 girls from across the country who could become the next Miss England.
