Yaseen, 19, a trainee electrician from Brookthorpe and Lauren, 18, from Podsmead, who works at Osprey at The Quays, said they were shocked but delighted to claim the top spot on Thursday.

When they were announced, cheers went up around the nightspot and Yaseen's mum Sara Jaffer ran onto the stage to give him a big hug.

An English student is hoping her snapshot will win her a place in the finals of an international beauty pageant.

Nadia Aumeer, of Station Road, Barnet, is one of 12 finalists competing in the Fresh Photographic heat qualifier for Miss England 2013.

The 19-year-old said: "My friend entered the competition last year and I thought it sounded amazing - but I never thought I'd get this far. I was shocked.

THIS is the moment test tube baby Miss England finally met her maker - telly professor Lord Robert Winston.

The IVF expert was thrilled to come face-to-face with stunning Charlotte Holmes, who he first saw when she was just a handful of tiny cells.

And he told The Sun: "It's better than a butterfly from a caterpillar isn't it?"

Charlotte's parents were desperate for a baby when they were accepted on to Professor Winston's pioneering fertility program in 1988. It was just ten years after a team had created the first test tube baby, Louise Brown, and IVF was still in its trial phases.

Ella Pleasants, 16, entered the Miss England contest online as a bit of fun, and is now a finalist in the Miss Cambridgeshire category.

The King's Ely student has just a fortnight to rack up as many public votes as she can.

A DUDLEY nursery nurse is flying the flag for the borough as she is one of only 20 finalists in the first Fresh Photographic heat qualifier for Miss England 2013.

Laura Allsop, aged 22, is now appealing for public votes in order to secure her place in the Miss England semi-final in June next year before voting ends at noon on Monday (September 24).

The brunette beauty, who is an avid West Brom fan, is hoping to collect enough votes to place in the top three of the heat so that she can pursue her dream career as a model.

A pharmacy worker from Weybridge is one of 20 finalists in the first fresh photographic heat qualifier for Miss England 2013.

To secure a place in the Miss England semifinal in June 2013, Carrie Millinger, 21, needs the support of the community.

Miss Millinger works as a pharmacy counter assistant, but spends her spare time singing, dancing, DJing and playing bass guitar in a band.

She is hoping to secure a place in the top three, but then her fate will be in the hands of the panel of judges who will decide who is the most photogenic and should receive a place in the Miss England semifinal.

A TEENAGER is hoping to charm her way to the finals of a prestigious beauty contest.

Fifi Endrojono-Ellis, from Wembley, is one of 20 finalists competing in the first heat qualifier for Miss England 2013.

The 17-year-old student needs public votes to win the Miss Fresh Photographic Heat One and secure a place in the Miss England semi-final and is hoping our readers will support her.

WANNABE beauty queens were snapped by scouts at the weekend.

They were out and about in the city looking for entries for Miss Gloucester 2012.

They picked several lovelies out of the crowd and praised girls in Gloucester as among the most beautiful in England.

The scouting event took place at Gloucester Quays and among those judging the girls was Miss England director, Angie Beasley.

She said: "We had a very successful weekend in Gloucester and were very impressed with the standard of girls in general.

A DANCER from Liverpool has taken her first step on the road to become Miss England.

Hayley Baker, 21, is one of 20 finalists competing in the first Fresh Photographic heat qualifier for Miss England 2013.

A public vote is under way and Hayley needs support before voting lines close to secure a place in the Miss England semi-final next June.

If she finishes in the top three of the heat, her fate will then be in the hands of judges who will decide who is the most photogenic and should receive a place in the semi-final.

A FORMER Face of Plymouth winner said her charity skydive was a "huge personal achievement".

Charlotte Holmes, Miss England 2012, took part in a charity skydive at the end of August to raise money for underprivileged children across the world.

Miss Holmes, from Torpoint, said the 13,000ft jump was actually quite enjoyable.

She said: "I was absolutely terrified in training and in the plane on the way up, but once I jumped out of the plane with my Red Devils Paratrooper Billy, I actually enjoyed it.

A 21-year-old who said she was picked on at school has reached the finals of Miss Cambridgeshire 2013.

Roxanne Henry, of Chieftain Way, said she was shocked to be among the 15 shortlisted.

Roxanne said being teased at school really knocked her confidence but the competition has really helped her.

She said: "When I was growing up I was always told I would never become something.

BRIGHT lights, big city... Charlotte Holmes swapped the glamour of the Miss World contest to catch an Elvis Presley impersonator in her home town.

It was Viva! Torpoint as Miss England enjoyed a more modest night out on her return from the razzmatazz of the global beauty pageant.

Her previous public appearance was in the final of the Miss World contest in front of a television audience of one billion.

The former Face of Plymouth winner had a ball partying with about 300 at the relaunch of the Harbour Lights club.

Friend Zoe Vigus, whose family owns the venue, said: "She was well away. We had a big banner welcoming her back. It was a chance for local people to say congratulations. Torpoint is so proud of her."

FORMER Face of Plymouth Charlotte Holmes said she is determined to give the Miss World grand final her "best shot".

The 23-year-old beauty, who grew up in Torpoint, will compete as Miss England in the live event on Saturday.Charlotte is currently in Mongolia battling it out with 117 other contestants for the coveted crown.

She yesterday told The Herald that the past four weeks of the competition have been the opportunity of a lifetime. "I can't wait for Saturday, it's going to be brilliant," she said.

Miss England 2012 winner Charlotte Holmes has revealed that she hopes to make history by becoming the first Miss World to be conceived by IVF.

The 23-year-old recently told how she was one of the first children to be conceived by the procedure with the help of Professor Robert Winston.

The brunette, who was born in Plymouth, said her parents opted for a trial test-tube baby programme after trying to conceive a child naturally for eight years to no avail.

Charlotte, 23, won the 'Front Top Model' prize at Miss England, and has now been selected from 118 other contestants to compete in the Top Model round at Miss World on August 12.

Charlotte is hoping her previous modelling experience and success on TV show, Britain's Next Top Model, where she placed 4th, will help her stand out against the other 46 finalists to secure herself a place in the top 15 at the Miss World final on August 18.

A hairdresser has created a dress made entirely from human hair which was worn by a beauty queen on the catwalk of the Miss England final.

Jodie Breeds created the eco-friendly frock using hair donated from her own clients and hair extensions.

The coiffured creation was then worn by Miss England finalist Holly Lyons, 18, in the environmentally friendly dress round of this year's Miss England contest.

Holly was competing in the beauty pageant under the name of Jodie's salon in Sunderland, Miss 24 Carat.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of spooning an entire tin of Ambrosia custard into their gobs, or has seen the natural beauty of Dartmoor, will know that Devon is a pretty special county.

And so it will probably come as little surprise to learn that Charlotte Holmes, aka Miss Devon, has been crowned Miss England 2012.

The Devonian was one of 60 of the nation's most beautiful women who gathered in Leicester this week to battle it out for the illustrious title.

Holmes - a former contestant on Britain's Next Top Model - faced stiff competition in the shape of runners up Anastasia Smith (Miss North Yorkshire) and Tamzin Cummings (Sunderland People's Choice), but eventually came out on top.

Former Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model contestant, Charlotte Holmes, was crowned Miss England last night.

The beautiful girl blubbed through her tiara and trophy acceptance at the Athena hotel in Leicester.

Representing Devon, the 23-year-old beat off competition from 59 other gorgeous and talented girls, including another Sky Living alumni - Signed By Katie Price contestant, Amy Willerton.

Pegged as a favourite to win, Charlotte, who came fourth in BINTM Series 6, said that the competition was "a fantastic way to celebrate inspirational, ambitious, young women".

SOUTH Yorkshire beauty queens Jaime-Lee Faulkner and Caroline Welch both missed out on being crowned Miss England at a glittering awards ceremony.

Jaime-Lee, aged 22, from Rotherham, may not have won the crown - but she did beat 58 other contestants to secure a place in the Top 17 after winning one of the 12 judges' choice awards up for grabs on the night.

She subsequently lost out on a place in the top five to girls including Miss South Yorkshire, Caroline Welch, 17, from Doncaster, who came fourth. Miss Devon, Charlotte Holmes, 24, took the crown in Leicester.

Jaime-Lee said: "The competition was so tough this year - there were so many fantastic girls. I had an absolutely amazing experience."

Model Olivia Landin from Market Deeping, who dropped plans to have a boob job after winning a beauty contest has narrowly missed winning the Miss England title.

Contest finalist Olivia (20), saw Miss Devon, Charlotte Holmes, take the crown at a ceremony in Leicester on Tuesday night (26 June).

Pretty Olivia was going to get surgery to enlarge her B-cup breasts but ditched those plans after being selected for the beauty pageant.

She was nominated after winning the Miss Everymodel contest. Olivia was told of her qualification on March 5 - just two days before she was due to go under the knife.

For the fashion graduate is off to Mauritius after bagging the trip at the glamour girl finals in Leicester on Tuesday night.

Nadina Knight, 24, shed four dress sizes after her 21st birthday party snaps showed she had ballooned to 15st at university.

She said: "I just couldn't believe it, there was so much of me.

"When I realised how big I was, my confidence was shot. But now I have got it all back."

Nadina, now 10st, ditched takeaways and hit the gym, and was named Miss Northampton in March.

Later this month she will battle 59 other models to be crowned Miss England.

A Miss England finalist from Northampton says she has "turned her life around" after losing five stone and four dress sizes.

Nadina Knight, of Abington, is the first winner of Miss Northampton to make it through to the national final of the beauty pageant, which will be held in Birmingham later this month.

The 24-year-old said her success was due to hard work and determination which she had used three years ago to drop from 15 stone to 10.

Miss Knight said: "A huge life achievement for me was working very hard on my fitness and lifestyle at the age of 21 to lose five stone.

A beauty queen will go from the catwalk to the boxing ring as she competes in the Miss England final this month before representing Great Britain at the World Kickboxing Championships.

Chelsie Griffin, 21, only took up kick-boxing last year to lose weight and get fit. She is now a yellow belt and will compete in the world champs this August.

Before she enters the ring, she will take part in the Miss England final after winning the Miss Rugby title earlier this year.

Chelsie said her position in the beauty pageant is all thanks to the confidence boost kickboxing has given her - and the positive effect it has had on her figure and fitness.

The winner of Miss Norfolk 2012 has been named as 22-year-old Eisha Acton.

The entrepreneur and business management student secured a place in the Miss England grand final in June when she won the Miss Norfolk final at Carrow Road on Sunday night.

The runners-up were Neuza Vika, an 18-year-old student from Great Yarmouth, and Hayley Adlam, a 21-year-old marine mammal observer from Norwich.

A 22 year-old student is celebrating after securing herself a place in the Miss England grand final in June.

Clinical Psychology student Nikki Sahota, from West Bromwich was crowned Miss Black Country 2012.

The event,organised by Front Models and held at the Malmaison Hotel in Birmingham, saw Nikki take to the catwalk alongside other contestants from across the county and compete for the title of Miss Black Country in three exciting rounds.

Chelcie Mayhew, centre, has been crowned Miss Nottingham 2012.

The 18-year-old, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, beat 21 other finalists to the crown following judging at Colwick Hall Hotel on Sunday.Chelcie will now go forward to represent the city at the national Miss England finals in Leicester on June 26.

Ms Laban, who was recruited to Ballarat's female soccer team last year, has reached the semi-finals of the 2012 Miss England beauty pageant. She spent the year on the Lady Devils' list but was hampered by injuries.

Now she is back in England and has a chance of winning the competition.

A serving police officer has set her sights on becoming the next Miss England after being Crowned Miss Cornwall 2012 at a ceremony in Newquay.

PC Alice Nicholas took the title ahead of 17 rivals, scooping a number of prizes including a television presenter's course and a year's modelling contract.

The 22-year-old, who serves with Devon and Cornwall Police, is now eligible to compete in the Miss England grand find final from June 23-26 at the Athena Leicester.

A BEAUTY QUEEN who has been crowned the first ever Miss West Yorkshire is selling her artworks to help children around the world.

Bisoye Abi Salu, best known as Abi, is raising the money for the Beauty with a Purpose Charity as she prepares for the Miss England semi-final.

Miss Salu, 20, from Outwood, is selling her identity themed artwork to raise more money for the charity that helps children around the world.

The former Pontefract NEW College student is also being sponsored to quit junk food for a fortnight as part of her fundraising.

Miss Salu, who is originally from Nigeria, said: "The artwork is all about what makes identity. For some people it's hairstyle, or background, but it all makes your identity.

The university student from Bilsborrow has just been crowned Miss Leeds and has qualified for the Miss England finals, and did so with a little help from her talent for weightlifting.

Sarah, 19, has just won the British Universities weightlifting championships and came second in the English Championships, just five months after taking up the sport.

She is already being tipped as a future champion, and has set her sights on competing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

A police constable has ditched her dowdy police helmet for a sparkly tiara to become the new Miss Cornwall.

Alice Nicholas, 22, is now eligible for the Miss England contest, after beating 29 rivals including students, beauticians and horse riding instructors at the competition on Friday.

Alice said taking part was an ‘amazing experience', but added that it was incredibly nerve-wracking. ‘Doing my job you get to be in some pretty stressful situations,' she said. ‘However I don't think I've ever been as nervous as I was in front of those judges.'

She added: ‘I am so thrilled to be representing Cornwall in Miss England. All of the girls last night looked absolutely stunning. They are all winners in my eyes.'

Yorkshire beauties are set to go head-to-head and battle it out to scoop the coveted Miss Leeds crown on Saturday. (March 31)

Dozens of catwalk queens will take to the stage in their bid to represent the city and gain a place in the Miss England beauty pageant. They will follow in the footsteps of last year's winner Kelsey Sutcliffe.

Kelsey, 21, from Oakworth, Keighley, scooped the title last year and represented the city in the national beauty pageant.

She had to create her own dress as part of the competition's eco-round and wowed the judges with her innovative design made from old school jumpers, loofahs, bin liners and a paper clip bracelet.

A 22-YEAR-old from Hambrook has been crowned Miss Bristol & Avon 2012.

Carley Rugman has also secured herself a place in the Miss England grand final in June.

The event at The Living Room bar on the city's Harbourside, saw Carley take to the catwalk with six other contestants to compete for the crown in three rounds - evening wear, sportsewar and interview.

Carley, who grew up in Kingswood and works for telesales company Channel Communication Services in Pill, said:

"I can't wait to represent my county at the Miss England final later this year. I just hope I can do Bristol proud and bring home the crown."

TEENAGER Caroline Welch has struck a blow for Doncaster - by becoming the borough's first Miss South Yorkshire.

The 17-year-old former Campsmount School pupil, from Moss, was crowned at a competition at The Consort Hotel, Thurcroft, Rotherham, four years after the county contest was set up at Doncaster Racecourse.

Three previous winners had all been from Rotherham.

For Caroline, it is success at her debut attempt, as it is the first time she has entered a beauty contest.

Now she is hoping to win Miss England in June, with the prospect of entering Miss World if she wins the national title.

A Little Hallingbury lovely is one step closer to being crowned Miss England after winning the top title in this year's Miss Hertfordshire competition.

Kirsty Heslewood won the nationwide contest's regional heats after organising a £3,000 fund-raiser for her chosen charity. Almost £700 of the money raised came from her sponsors.

The event, a costumed run called Trainers and Tiaras, saw the 22-year-old and her supporters run 10 laps of the Wodson Park sports ground in Ware. She was joined by family members and fellow finalists.

A 20-YEAR-OLD advertising recruiter from Chingford has been crowned Miss Essex 2012.

Amber Zakrzewski, who also models part-time, scored top marks from judges including Teddy Sheringham and TOWIE star Chloe Sims.

After winning last night's event at the Top Golf Leisure Centre in Chigwell, Amber will advance to the Miss England Finals where she will compete for a place in Miss World.

More than 80 contestants took part in the contest, but it was Amber who caught the judges' eye, scoring top marks in every round of the competition.

A teenage student has been chosen as this year's Miss Leicester.

Lena Walker, 17, from Aylestone, was one of 22 young women competing for the coveted title at the competition

The Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth college student will now represent Leicester in Miss England in June.

Lena said: "I am very honoured to be chosen as Miss Leicester. It would be amazing if I won Miss England."

Dempsie Trevor-Wilson, 19, was chosen as runner-up and will now take part in a semi-final of Miss England being held in May.

DISPOSABLE fashion might dominate the high street, but for contestants of Miss Liverpool the emphasis is on recycled style.

As finalists walk in front of judges on Friday, they will be wearing unique eco dresses created for them by students at Liverpool Community College.

Each one has been hand-made using an imaginative array of reworked objects, secondhand and vintage pieces - everything from black bin bags to old vinyl records and bubble wrap.

The student designers and beauty queens have been working in pairs since the beginning of the January term after Miss Liverpool organiser Pat Hughes set them a green challenge.

Sunita Pall, a third-year pharmacy undergraduate at De Montfort University, has been crowned as Miss DerbyThe 23-year-old, who lives in Leicester but is from Derby, is now entered into the final of Miss England.

Sunita said: "I want to show that these beauty pageants are not outdated by illustrating that you can have beauty and brains.

"I come from Derby but have lived in Leicester for years and I love both places. I will be representing both cities when I compete for the title of Miss England."

YOUTH worker Kris'ina Jagpal has been crowned as the new Miss Birmingham.

She will represent the city in the final of the prestigious Miss England competition in the summer with a chance to make it into the Miss World contest.

Kris'ina, of Edgbaston, was awarded the title at a glittering final in front of a large crowd at the city's Burlington Hotel.

The 24-year-old triumphed over 30 other girls in the competition, which included fashion, club and evening wear rounds. She was also interviewed on stage before the judging panel selected her as the overall winner.

A BEAUTY competition finalist said "I do" to raising funds for charity on Sunday last week.

Hannah Kay, pictured, a finalist from Newquay, held a charity raffle at Pentewan Wedding Fair to raise money for the Miss Cornwall charity Beauty With A Purpose, while modelling a local wedding dress

Raffle entrants got the chance to win either a trip in a chauffeur-driven Ferrari or Armstrong Sidley, beauty treatments, or a photo shoot.

"It went really well - I sold quite a few raffle tickets," said the 16-year-old college student.

"Modelling the dress was amazing and I got some lovely comments from people - definitely something I could get used to."

Nadina Knight triumphed over other local girls in the final of the 2012 Miss Northampton contest held at the Park Inn yesterday.

Twelve finalists from across Northampton promoted sustainable fashion by competing in two eco-themed rounds.

They created an outfit either made from recyclable materials, borrowed from friends and relatives or bought from a charity shop.

All the girls have been fund raising for the Miss England chosen charity, ‘Beauty with a Purpose', since February.

Nadina (pictured centre) will now represent Northampton in the Miss England semi finals on May 30.

A glitzy final ceremony held on Saturday (March 3) at the Indian Community on Edward Street saw Jordan Williams crowned Mr Rugby, Chelsie Griffin Miss Rugby and Emmi Harris Junior Miss Rugby.

The competition raised £5,000 this year for Coventry babies hospice Zoe's Place and the official Miss World Charity, Beauty with a Purpose.

A Miss London 2012 contestant is going on a peanut butter diet to raise money for a children's charity.

Charlotte Holmes, 23, of Clapham, will consume 1,000 calories of peanut butter, or a nut-based supplement, each day from today until 7th March, to demonstrate her support for the Thai Children's Trust charity.

The model consulted a nutritionist to find a healthy way of surviving on a diet similar to that of a starving child, to experience one hardship that the charity, selected by Miss London 2012, works to combat.

Miss England has launched an online auction of winners' dresses in aid of disadvantaged children.

London student Alize Mounter will wear one of the dresses by Tottenham designer Karen Karmody at a fashion show to mark this year's contest in June. The auction runs until May 30.

The 23-year-old, from Wales and now a student at Roehampton University, will join past winners modelling vintage outfits from the beauty contest, including her white gown, left, from last year's competition and her blue dress, far left, from Miss World in November.
