The current Miss England Laura Coleman is pictured body painted Green by the 2007 world
body painting champion Carolyn Roper to launch the Miss England 09 contest. The Grand
final of Miss England will take place at the London Hilton Metropole on July 20th 2009 and
organisers are planning to have a green theme to promote recycling as part of the competition.

Tonya Brown (Miss Charity 2008 - left) made a dress out of milk bottle caps and foils whilst Kimberley Cooper (Miss Orpington 2009) pictured right made her dress out of newspapers!

Katy Baxter (Miss Henley-on-Thames) wore this stunning dress
that used to be her grandma's back in the sixties!

Jessica Chai (Miss Chipping Norton / Oxfordshire Charity) donned this beautiful dress created from allsorts of denim with matching denim handbag!

Sarah Mathers (Miss Loughborough) created her outfit from plastic shopping bags!

Charlotte Packham (Miss East Sussex) donned in this beautiful yellow dress. You wouldn't think this dress used to be a parachute!
On Saturday 28 March 2009 at 8.30pm, Laura Coleman and the Miss England team have signed up for Earth hour. The Coventry heat of Miss England is to be held by candlelight & torches! All lighting will be switched off for a whole hour – in support of WWF’s Earth Hour. Miss Coventry organiser Diane Slater says " We are delighted to be highlighting such an important issue at the Miss Coventry competition and at the same time im sure it will be fun! "
Laura says "I think its seriously important that everyone does as much as they can to help stop the negative effects of Global warming and try and be as environmentally as possible.

You can help in tiny ways by simply turning off the TV completley instead of leaving it on standby , or making sure you switch the lights off before you leave the room and car sharing. Small things can make a large difference. I always try to help as much as I can. I drive a smart car which has smaller co2 emmissions. "
At the final in July, all the regional Miss England finalists are being invited to a swishing party on the eve of the contest and will be encouraged to bring outfits they no longer wear and will have the chance to swap with fellow contestants.
Miss England Organiser Angie Beasley said “We have had an eco round in many of the regional heats this year. In the London heat last week at Movida the outfits the contestants wore were green and recycled and it made the girls think about what they should wear instead of just buying new off the peg. it also saved them a few pennies! The same will happen in our national final where green recycled clothing will replace the usual cocktail scene of the contest. Also the guests who attend the grand final will be asked not to wear NEW and choose recycled clothing "
Finalists in this year's Miss England competition will spend two days at the London Hilton Metropole on the 19th & 20th July and the winner will be crowned on the 20th July during the evening. The winner of the competition will qualify for this year's Miss World finals.
Approximately a month before the national final, the semi final will be held at Champneys Springs with 60 contestants competing for a place in the national final.

The competition will be supporting charities including the National Autistic Society and B-eat
